Summer of 2024

Date: Fridays, June 14- August 2
Time: 9am-12pm
Fee: $345 providing own boat or $450 needs a boat.

Depending on class numbers, BOATS WILL BE SHARED AND BORROWED. If you plan to bring your own boat, please know that other sailors might be using it at different times in class.

Pre-requisites: Sailors must be able to successful sail around a course, independently sail upwind/downwind, and have control of a boat. (Preferred level: Step 2 and above)

The O’pen Skiff is a plastic, modern, single-handed boat that is designed with fun in mind. It has an open transom with the motto of "bailing is cancelled." The O’pen Skiff comes with a monofilm sail that is 4.5 square meters in size.  The boat can also be fitted to use an Optimist sail to be enjoyed by the smallest sailors in the family.  The boat is 9 feet long and weighs 99 pounds.  The O’pen Skiff capsizes easily, but it is even easier to bring back upright!

The O’pen Skiff regattas are called Un-regattas because the focus is not just about winning races, but instead the focus is on having the most fun possible while encouraging sportsmanship.  This class will have activities such as: limbo competitions, freestyle, course racing, slalom, and much more!  Skiff Un-Regattas and Optimist Green Fleet regattas have a lot of similarities in their objectives.

It is important to note that this class will not compete against the Optimist classes offered but instead complement boat-handling, confidence, teamwork, and friendships. The focus of the class is not just about winning races, but also on having the most fun possible while encouraging sportsmanship. The class will offer activities such as limbo competitions, freestyle, course racing, slalom, and much more!

We own 5 O'pen Bics!

PLSS is very excited to announce the purchase of 2 new O'pen Bics to support this class from Melges. PLSS would like to extend a thank you to Melges Boatworks for their support and helping us with this new initiative. We had 3 boats donated to PLSS by a very generous donor! Thank you!
