The Beginner Optimist program is an introductory sailing class for children ages 7-12; it is HIGHLY recommended that sailors have completed Kindergarten. During this class, your sailor will learn the basic skills needed to be a successful sailor-- how to be safe and comfortable around the water, how to be properly prepared for sailing each day, how to rig, de-rig, and care for their boats and equipment, along with gaining a new set of on-the-water skills each day. Sailors do not need to own a boat to participate in this class. If your sailor has previously taken Beginning Opti, and you would like to learn about the next steps, visit our Opti Step 2 page.
